How About Some Cake?

Happy Friday!

I have an extra project for you this week! Today is A Jillian Vance Design's design team coordinator, Ruby Aleman's birthday! Ruby's blog, Handcrafted Simply by Us is really great and she's got some great projects!

The rest of us at A Jillian Vance Design all made birthday cards for Ruby. I decided to make a flutter card.

This type of card can be kind of tricky. I laid out my card base using ECAL (SCAL for the eClips). I used the cupcake from SVG Cuts Happy Birthday To You kit. For each cupcake you need to cut two, making sure one of them is the mirror image so they will layer together seamlessly. You run a thread between the layers and the adhere that under the frame layer of the card.

A used the cake sentiment from Jillian's new Basically Birthdays stamp set. It's a good general birthday set and it has a some really great sentiments.

When you open the card the cupcakes on the threads "flutter" and twist .

Time for a BBQ!

Happy Thursday!

This week at A Jillian Vance Design I am working with the Pleas{ANT} Picnic stamp set. I decided to make a child's favor box and cupcake for a family BBQ. (And that cute silverware caddy is one of my projects from last summer and can be found here)

Let's start with the cupcake (and all ignore my lazy frosting job - Hey! They taste really good!). I used Jillian's {die}licious Flag Banner die and the Everyday Flags stamp set for the base of my flag. I added one of the ants from the small ant border in the Pleas{ANT} Picnic stamp set.

For the box I used an SVG file from SVG Attic (her site has since been shut down).

I cut the base for the box out of kraft cardstock. The pickets are cut from Bazzill Swiss Dots paper and inked with Fired Brick Distress Ink. The base itself is inked with Brushed Olive Distress Ink. I used the smaller ant border underneath the pickets and on the bottom of each layer. The pickets are all attached with pop dots. I wrapped some Maraschino bakers twine from The Twinery around the box to give it some color. The watermelon stamp is part of the Pleas{ANT} Picnic stamp set. I stamped it with black Staz-On ink and then colored it with my Copics before cutting it out. He is attached with pop dots as well.

I made a tiny pinwheel as a decoration to add a little more height and dimension to the box.

On the ends of the box are more ants and one of the sentiments from the stamp set.

Inside the box we have a wacky straw water bottlel, snap pops, some glow glasses and a couple of fruit snacks.

For the little liner on the bottom of the box I used Cranberry Close to My Heart ink and the checkered border stamp from the Pleas{ANT} Picnic stamp set. I repeated the border over and over to get that fun picnic tablecloth look. I then inked the edges and lightly over the entire piece with the Fired Brick Distress Ink.

And there you have it! The whole box took about 10 minutes to put together so it wouldn't be hard to make several of these for a party.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check back next week for another fun project!

Fabulous Feathers

Happy Thursday!

Back again with another design team project for A Jillian Vance Design!  This week I'm working with the Peacock Feathers stamp set. The feathers on this set are so delicate and fun to work with!

For this project I decided to use a resist technique to highlight the feathers and make them stand out. I stamped the feathers on the tag with Tim Holtz Distress Embossing ink. I then embossed them with some Stampendous clear powder that has a little shimmer to it. My ribbon at the top of the card is some seam binding that I colored with some purple, green and blue Glimmer Mist.

After giving the tag a few minutes to cool off, I used my blending too and the three inks in the Tim Holtz Spring Seasonal Distress Inks to color the tag. The ink won't stick to the embossed areas which is why this technique is so fun.

For the title, I stamped the sentiment first with the Shaded Lilac Distress Ink then stamped it again with the Peacock Feathers Distress Ink. That gives the sentiment a kind of shadow effect. This only works with stamps that have a chunkier line to them. You also need to stamp the lighter shade first then the darker shade on top. I added some pearls randomly on the tag to finish it off.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure you come back next week - I have an AWESOME picnic project for you!

Happy Birthday Jillian!

Happy Birthday Jillian!

Today is Miss Jillian's 13th Birthday! To celebrate the entire design team at A Jillian Vance Design has made cards for her (and that also showcase her stamps!)

For my card I decided to use Jillian's "official" colors of red and black. I used SVG Cuts Playful Parlour kit to make this great wrap card. The insets on the flaps are zebra printed vellum.

I edged the band that goes around the card with a silver Krylon leaf pen. The stamp is from the Charming Occasions Stamp Set.

Inside I accents the layers with the silver leaf pen again and used one of the sentiment stamps from the new Basically Birthdays stamp set that will be available tomorrow.

A Jillian Vance Design Sneak Peeks Day 4!

All week at A Jillian Vance Design we've been doing sneak peeks of our stamp release that happens TOMORROW!!! So I have two projects for you today.

First up our new set Big Money!

For this one I decided to use the Jewelry Box from SVG Cuts Playful Parlour kit.

Inside I used Jillian's {die}signer Pocket Die and mounted it on a spring so it pops forward when you open the box.

My second project uses the new A Little Bird stamp set.

For this project I used a Ranger Kraft Tag for my base. I love making tags because there are so many options and because it's a small project it's done quickly.

I embossed the birdcage using gold Zing! embossing powder. I accented the tag with Tim Holtz Tissue Tape and some little bird embellishments from Michaels. I finished it off with a feather.

Gnome Ideas in Sight.....

Hey there!

So do you ever have ideas and you get partway through a project and then totally forget where you were going with it? Just me? It must be pregnancy brain striking again.....

So this week at A Jillian Vance Design is designer's choice with a summer theme. I knew I wanted to use this adorable gnome from the Freshly Picked Cricut cartridge. I knew I wanted to use A Jillian Vance Design's In The Garden stamp set. So I made a little seed packet, cut the gnome and stamped my adorable little sentiment on the little sign....and totally couldn't figure out where I was going with this. Perhaps to give a gift card for Father's Day to a favorite garden center? Maybe as an embellishment on a scrapbook page to hold some mementos of a gardening day with your kids? I know I had an AWESOME idea when I started this but.....for now we'll all just enjoy the gnome-y goodness and an idea for another cute stamp from A Jillian Vance Design!
